I had people place the pockets where they found most comfortable in whatever position they were currently in.
I had people place the pockets where they thought were most comfortable when in the seated position.
I then had them stand and recorded how the placement shifted, along with comfort and usability.
1 The most common position and preference of pockets that I have found for individuals and in modern-day outerwear.
2 Situated at the hip and at a slight angle, this position is very comfortable for individuals with full mobility and in the standing position.
3 ERROR // In the seated position, the pockets fall in the crease between the lap and torso, making them unaccessible for a person with limited mobility.
4 This position was preferred by a wheel chair user with limited mobility.
5 The pockets are positioned higher on the torso and rotated inward ~130º.
6 ERROR // In the standing position, this pocket placement is no longer ergonomic for an upright individual.
